Everyone is a Very Important Person. Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics said it best, “Everyone has an invisible sign hanging from their neck saying, ‘Make me feel important.’ Never forget this message when working with people.”
Great leaders have the knack for making people feel like a million bucks.
The way you can tell, is how the people around them engage and react to their leadership presence. Do they care and compliment people?
Treat People Well
Managers lead by fear and intimidation. They manipulate people instead of pushing up people to success. Great leaders understand that people are people and they should be treated as such. Managers think that caring and showing the human touch is too fluffy and feel good.
Leaders on the other hand, understand that in order to inspire and achieve the best results, you will have to care and touch other people heart.
John C. Maxwell, a leadership expert claimed that, “Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand.”
Cultivate personal relationships
Great leaders really know their people, their families, their goals, their strengths, and their dreams. One of the essentials of great teams, is the connections people make. These connections people go beyond the business needs.
When you think of someone that made an impact on your career as a leader, that person knew more about you as a person and cared enough to dig further to show an interest in your life outside of work.
Knowing people will help you push people up because you will know them better and as a result, they will give you 110% performance.
People perform better when someone has made a sincere effort to know what is going on in their life.
Don’t forget to praise and recognize
Nothing makes a motivating environment or a culture than recognizing and praising your people. If you constantly focusing on what is going wrong or criticizing the people you lead, they will never be motivated.
People like to hear the sound of a positive encouragement.
Great leaders focus on what is going right. They accentuate the positive things in every person in their organization.
We all want to feel good about the work we do. We all want to feel appreciated for doing something right. It’s a human need.
As leader, make the effort to go out of your way to make someone’s day.
A pat on the back, a word of encouragement, a kind word just at the right time, a listening ear when they needed someone to talk to.
